Scrap Gold App

Show customers live scrap gold buy prices per karat — while your private buy percentage of melt stays hidden. Spot moves; the table recalculates. You are not rewriting a board every time gold ticks.

Someone dumps a jewelry pouch on your pad. You need a clear, current number — not a napkin formula, and not a wall of stale prices from this morning.

In Configuration → Scrap Gold you set one business rule: what percent of melt you pay. That percentage is private (customers do not see it). SpotPro multiplies live gold by karat factors and your % to produce the cash prices on the table.

You do not re-enter Config when gold moves. The display and previews pull live spot and refresh on a short interval (about every 30–60 seconds). Leave the table open all day; the numbers track the market on their own. Open Config only when you decide to change policy — for example, “we now pay a different percent of melt,” not “gold went up $40.”

Open the fullscreen view on a phone, tablet, or second monitor so the customer sees the same live prices you use. When you are ready to write the ticket, finish in NumisNexus using scrap tools that honor the same pay percentage — so the wall and the receipt tell the same story without extra busywork.

At a glance

What this part of SpotPro is for — in plain English.

Live gold in → cash prices out, automatically

Set buy % of melt once — change only when policy changes

Customers see $/karat (or per gram) — not your private %

Auto-refresh on the display (about every 30–60 seconds)

Mobile and fullscreen for counter or show

Same pay % available when you buy scrap in NumisNexus

Included with SpotPro — not a separate app bill

Transparent numbers build trust on walk-ins

What you get

Set policy once. Live metal does the rest.

Auto price refresh

Table recalculates from live gold on a short timer. No morning rewrite when the market jumps.

Your buy % of melt

One setting (or counter vs web variants where you use them). Private to your shop.

Mobile at the pad

Open on a phone or tablet during the buy so the customer can see the board.

Fullscreen display

Wall tablet or second monitor — karat rows with live cash prices.

Customer-facing clarity

Quote from a price list, not a secret calculator only you can read.

Easy for any skill level

New counters read the table; they do not invent a formula.

NumisNexus scrap buys

Write the ticket with scrap tools that use your shop pay % — finish the deal on the desk.

Config = policy only

Open Configuration → Scrap Gold to set or change your %. Not to “catch up” with the market.

What it looks like

Real screens from a live shop account — not mockups.

How it actually works

Two different ideas: your fixed policy (%), and live gold (automatic).

1. Set policy once — your buy % of melt

In Configuration → Scrap Gold, enter the percentage of melt your shop pays. That is a business rule (how aggressive you are on jewelry), not a daily market task.

Customers never need to see that percentage. They see the resulting buy prices on the table. Change Config only when you intentionally change shop policy — competition, strategy, different % for the public website vs counter if you use separate web settings — not because spot ticked up this afternoon.

  • Policy lives in Config; live prices do not
  • One shop rule for every device that opens the table
  • Optional separate public-web % where you use website scrap embeds
1. Set policy once — your buy % of melt
Set % once — leave it alone until policy changes

2. Live gold updates the dollars — automatically

With your % saved, SpotPro applies live gold spot to karat melt factors and shows cash buy prices. The fullscreen and counter scrap views refresh on a short interval (about every 30–60 seconds) so a quiet morning board is not still quoting last night’s melt after the open.

That is the opposite of “update Config when gold moves.” Spot moves → prices recalculate. You can leave the display running all day. Staff do not retype anything for a normal market day.

  • Auto-refresh from live spot — no dry-erase board
  • Same idea as sell Display Screen / buy boards: metal moves, UI follows
  • You still make the buy decision — the table just stays current
2. Live gold updates the dollars — automatically
Leave it open — prices track gold for you

3. Show the table, then finish in NumisNexus

During the conversation, open the scrap table full screen or on a phone. Weigh and karat the jewelry against the live board so the customer sees what you see.

When you are ready to buy, NumisNexus is where you write the ticket: weight, karat, totals, shop vs show venue, customer receipt and store copy. Scrap purchase tools use your configured pay percentage, so you are not maintaining two different formulas — one for the wall and one for the desk.

Why shops leave it on the wall

Scrap is emotional for sellers and easy for new staff to mess up with ad-hoc math. A live table speeds the first quote, reduces “what did you pay last week?” arguments, and shows you run a process — not guesswork.

It also trains the next visit: customers already know you post clear numbers. That is the same transparency idea as live sell boards and buy sheets for bullion.

  • Faster first quote on walk-ins
  • Same prices at the storefront and on a show tablet
  • Less training burden for new buyers

Common questions

Short answers dealers ask before they try this on the floor.

Do I have to update Config every time gold moves?
No. That is the whole point. You set the buy percentage of melt as shop policy. Live gold updates the cash prices on the table automatically (refresh on a short interval). Open Config only when you want to change the percentage itself.
Does the customer see my buy percentage?
No. The percentage is private. They see resulting buy prices per karat so the conversation stays about dollars, not your margin formula.
How often do prices refresh?
Scrap displays pull live gold and recalculate on a short timer — about every 30–60 seconds in the scrap tools. Leave the screen open; you do not manually refresh for normal market movement.
Is this a separate paid app?
No. Configuration → Scrap Gold and the scrap display are part of SpotPro for members.
Can I use it at a coin show?
Yes. Open the table on a phone or tablet (it keeps updating with live gold), then finish the purchase in NumisNexus and tag the venue as a show if you track venues.
How is this different from the Live Buy Sheet?
Live Buy Sheet is the broader “what we pay” board for coin and bullion lines from purchase presets. Scrap Gold is the karat/melt jewelry table driven by your scrap pay %. Many shops use both.

What coin shops say

Real dealers. Real floors. Same software we run at The Coin Shop in Brighton.

Busy shop plus shows was always a juggling act. This system handles both without forcing us to keep separate lists or files. Stock stays consistent, labels are easy, and the online and wholesale pieces don't fight with the counter. It just feels practical. Happy we switched.

Shop + shows

We've been with SpotPro for 5 years, and it's been a Godsend for our shop. The standout? Definitely the Point of Sale Display. Also the text messaging — a quick notification after new stock and customers come calling.

Since we started using SpotPro, we've noticed a significant change in how we do things. Real-time pricing and the POS Display have really helped. I'd definitely suggest giving it a try if you're in the business.

Reference tools

I've been in this business long enough to be tired of software that doesn't get how we actually work. SpotPro finally does. Buying at the counter and at shows is way faster now, the prices on the big screen stay current so customers stop arguing, and the online store actually sells without nickel-and-diming us on fees. It's just made the whole shop run smoother.

Counter · TV · store

Wasn't looking for another system, but a buddy talked me into trying it. Glad he did. Inventory, labels, counter, and the website all stay in sync for once. Customers trust the prices more because they update themselves, and the scrap gold tool is simple enough that even my part-timers don't mess it up. It's been a solid upgrade.

Inventory · scrap

The TV screen alone was worth it. People walk in, see the current numbers, and relax instead of pulling out their phones to check. Texting customers when new stuff comes in brings them back faster than I expected. Online sales are finally consistent without the usual marketplace headaches. Setup wasn't a nightmare either.

TV boards · SMS

I do a lot of shows and still keep the shop open, so I needed something that works in both places. Tracking buys by location, printing clean receipts, and keeping stock straight has been a relief. The online store and the wholesale side both pull from the same inventory, which cuts down on the usual double-entry mess. Feels like it was made by someone who's actually done this job.

Shows · wholesale

We used to bounce between a couple different programs and still end up with mistakes. Now everything's in one place and it just works. The price boards look professional, customers notice, and the directory listings have brought in a few new faces. Staff picked it up pretty quick. For what we pay, it's more than paid for itself.

One system

Online was always a pain for us until this. Having our own little store with live prices that actually update has made a difference. No weird fees eating into the margins. Counter work is cleaner too, and the text alerts when we get new stock are simple but effective. Customers respond to them.

Online store

Labels and inventory used to eat up way too much of the day. Now it's quick, the pricing stays current, and we can reprice stuff without starting from scratch every time the market moves. People comment on how professional the screens look. It's just less friction day to day.

Labels · inventory

I've tried a few different setups over the years and most of them feel like they were built for regular retail and then someone added "coins" as an afterthought. This one doesn't. Buying is straightforward, the boards are accurate, and the online side doesn't cost us extra every time something sells. Support has been decent when we needed it.

Built for dealers

After six months I can say it's made us more organized and a bit more profitable. Counter is faster, the website actually moves product, and texting customers about new arrivals works better than email ever did. The price displays help a lot with trust. We're not going back to the old way.
